Where Children Feel Safe, Comfortable, and Cared For
For a lot of adults, dental anxiety traces back to a single uncomfortable experience in childhood. We think about that every time a young patient walks through our door.
At Stetson Village Family Dentistry in Peoria, we have built an environment where children feel safe, seen, and at ease. Our team is experienced in working with kids at every stage, from curious toddlers taking in everything around them to teenagers who would rather be anywhere else. We meet each child where they are, move at a pace that works for them, and take the time to explain what we are doing in terms that make sense to a young person.
The goal is not just a healthy checkup. It is a visit your child leaves feeling good about, because that experience shapes how they feel about dental care for the rest of their life.

When Should Your Child First See a Dentist
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a child's first dental visit by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth coming in, whichever comes first.
Starting early accomplishes several things at once. It lets us monitor the development of your child's teeth and jaw from the beginning, identify any concerns while they are still minor, and begin building a relationship with your child before any treatment is ever needed. Early visits are typically brief, low-key, and focused almost entirely on making your child comfortable.
Waiting until there is a visible problem or until a child is old enough to sit still means missing a window that matters. We make first visits easy for both children and parents.

Supporting Your Child’s Oral Health at Home
Ages 0 to 2
Wipe your infant's gums with a clean, damp cloth before teeth emerge. Once the first tooth appears, brush gently with a soft-bristled infant toothbrush and a rice-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.Ages 3 to 5
Brush twice daily with a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste. Begin flossing as soon as two teeth touch. Make it a consistent routine tied to something already in your child's day, like bath time or bedtime.Ages 6 to 12
Children in this range are developing the coordination to brush more independently, but still benefit from parental oversight. Check their work, reinforce technique, and introduce flossing as a non-negotiable habit before the permanent teeth are fully in.Teens
Encourage consistent brushing and flossing even as supervision decreases. Watch for signs of grinding, especially during high-stress periods, and limit acidic drinks that erode enamel.Let’s Get Your Child Started on the Right Track
