A Simple Appointment That Makes a Lasting Difference
Most people only think about the dentist when something hurts. But the truth is, by the time you feel discomfort, a small, easily treatable issue has often already grown into something more involved. Routine cleanings and exams exist precisely to stop that from happening.
At Stetson Village Family Dentistry in Peoria, we build every cleaning appointment around two goals: keeping your mouth as healthy as possible today, and giving you the information you need to protect it long term. Our hygienists take their time, our dentists are thorough, and you will never feel rushed through an appointment that matters.
We know your schedule is busy. We also know that 60 minutes twice a year is one of the highest-return health habits you can build.

Finding the Right Cleaning Schedule for You
Twice a year works well for most healthy patients, but oral health is not one-size-fits-all. Our Peoria team may recommend more frequent visits if you have:
- Current or past periodontal disease
- Dry mouth caused by medications or systemic conditions
- A history of rapid tartar buildup
- Active orthodontic treatment
- Cardiovascular disease or diabetes affecting your oral health
We reassess your ideal schedule at every visit, so your care keeps pace with your needs.
What to Expect During Your Cleaning & Exam
A lot happens in a single cleaning and exam visit. Here is what to expect when you come to our Peoria office:
01
Digital X-Rays (As Needed)
When X-rays are due, we use digital imaging that delivers a precise, detailed picture of your teeth and bone structure with minimal radiation exposure. These images reveal what cannot be seen during a visual exam alone, including decay between teeth, changes in bone density, and developing issues below the gumline.
02
Oral Cancer Screening
At every comprehensive exam, we systematically evaluate your lips, tongue, gum tissue, cheeks, and throat for any abnormal changes. This quick but critical step is one of the most important things we do at each visit.
03
Gum Health Evaluation
Our hygienists assess the health of your gum tissue by measuring pocket depths around each tooth. This data tells us whether your gums are stable, showing early signs of inflammation, or need targeted periodontal attention.
04
Professional Cleaning
We remove all plaque and calcified tartar deposits from your teeth, including areas that standard brushing and flossing simply cannot reach. Your teeth are then polished to clear away surface staining and leave them feeling clean from root to tip.
05
Fluoride Application (When Appropriate)
Patients who benefit from added enamel protection receive a professional fluoride treatment at the close of their cleaning to help guard against decay between visits.
06
Dentist Examination and Review
The dentist reviews everything, including your images, your gum health data, and a visual inspection of every tooth and existing restoration. You will leave knowing exactly where your oral health stands and what, if anything, needs attention.
Care That Grows with Your Family
Our Peoria practice sees patients at every stage of life, and we adjust our approach accordingly.
Kids and Teenagers
Early dental visits build comfort and confidence while allowing us to track jaw and tooth development, apply preventive treatments like sealants, and catch orthodontic concerns before they require more complex intervention.Adults
